Simon (Orange Man, Schmelper, Simonster, Dr. Simon)
Simon was a wonderful surprise, given to Ray's wife by one of her favorite co-workers, Patty Perfect. He couldn't be more
than a couple of weeks old when he was brought to our attention. Ray's wife was pretty much done with any more new
cats, and Ray thought that it would be tough to bring another new cat, especially a tiny kitten, into our home...
One look at Simon and we where toast! Ray's wife was still pretty strong on raising him, having him fixed, then turning him
over to a new home, kind of like foster care for the new kitten...
Simon, however, quickly became the love of her life. He is absolutely adorable, of course, but he stays with her all time. He
even climbs into bed and curls up right next to her head, kind of sleeping on her pillow with her.
Ray tries to be jealous, but the first image he saw of Simon was followed up with the reply from him that, "It should come and
live with us forever."
Simon will live with us forever!
He is the smartest cat that we have. He is just incredible. While Snow would help Ray with anything if asked, and he actually
had thumbs, Simon will follow you everywhere and try to help... because he isn't always the best helper, he got
the nick name, "Schmelper", which we feel is kind of a sloppy helper. Their intentions may be great, but their follow through is
a bit off.
Simon is enthusiastic and can figure out things that simply surprise us every day. He is bright and intelligent. You can feel how
smart he is when you are with him. Ray jokingly says, "He's an idiot.", but you can tell, this cat is super smart. He is a blast to
play with. As he begins to outgrow his kitten phase, he is going to be even more loving and attentive. Simon is our youngest
cat. In the grand nature of life in general, he should be our last kitten.
We have agreed that due to our age, it is beginning to be unwise to adopt any kittens. Since cats that live inside (all of our cats
are inside cats), can have a very long life, perhaps twenty or more years, our days of acquiring very young cats are behind us.
All things being equal, we will have Simon until we are around 67 years old, we look forward to a very long life together with our little
boy. Due to some of Simon's antics, he also earned the nickname, "Simonster".
Simon is still kitten sized. Kind of a big kitten or small cat. He may grow a bit more, but he is mostly done now. He remains, absolutley
adorable.
