Peanut is a female cat. She may have had a litter of kittens when she got caught. This breaks our heart because if those kittens had
not been old enough to fend for themselves, or no other cat adopted them as their own, those kittens would not survive. It is painful
to even consider it.
Peanut is brave and strong. She balls up and hisses if you get too close to her. Since we have had her, she has become more friendly,
but she is still scared of people - and from her experience, who can blame her?
While Peanut balls up and hisses, giving you the impression that she is about to eat you alive, you can actually pick her up and snuggle
her. She is all show and no fight. We have actually been able to get her to purr when we pet her (those few times that she holds still
long enough to pet anyway).
Peanut is a beautiful brown cat, and very soft to the touch. When we got her and Linus, they got sick from their time at animal control.
This was bad. We thought that each of the kitties was going to die. They had a very hard time breathing and Ray rememebers that as
he was holding each of them, he'd repeat the word "breathe" as if his will would remind them to continue breathing... it was rough going
for a while. Of course, all of our cats got sick from the bug these two caught at animal control and all of our kitties got ill.
Ray and his wife fed them by hand and spent a lot of time with each kitty until they all got better. Today, all of the kitties are happy and
healthy!
Peanut is just beautiful, she is not very trusting, but spends a lot of time on our bed during the day. Ray likes this because she is getting
our scents, so she will come around faster. Just the fact that she isn't hiding all the time is great progress!
Ray had been calling Peanut "Girl Cat" almost since we got her. Since she sleeps in the drawer of a coffee table (she climbs up in it from
below), we also refer to her as Drawer Cat sometimes too. Peanut is becoming more friendly as time goes on.
Since Peanut and Linus came from the same clan of cats, and Linus was very friendly and trusting until Peanut came home too, Ray claims
that Peanut lies to Linus so that he would not warm up to us so fast. Both are coming around just fine though!
