I don't like allowing people to just post stuff on the sites that I own, but I would like to add comments from the readers of this page. I will do that on the bottom of this page, including the replies that flow with the ideal.
One and Done, The New American Revolution:
by Ray Hayden:
In the past, I have written about a concept known as Psychohistory.
Psychohistory was the invention of Isaac Asimov, and was part of the Foundation series of books. Generally speaking, Psychohistory allows for future predictions of large populations. In general, the larger the group, the more accurate the predictions could be.Because it is actually very interesting:You might be more familiar with the movie I Robot, staring Will Smith (2004). What you might not realize is that the story was first published (by Isaac Asimov) in 1950.
From Wikipedia, "The premise of the Foundation series is that mathematician Hari Seldon spent his life developing a branch of mathematics known as psychohistory, a concept of mathematical sociology (analogous to mathematical physics). Using the laws of mass action, it can predict the future, but only on a large scale; it is error-prone on a small scale. It works on the principle that the behaviour of a mass of people is predictable if the quantity of this mass is very large (equal to the population of the galaxy, which has a population of quadrillions of humans, inhabiting millions of star systems). The larger the number, the more predictable is the future."
Asimov (1920 - 1992), had great insight to many potentials, Psychohistory was one of those things.
The population of the planet just passed seven billion people. The United States alone has more than 311 million. No matter what each of our own personal desires might be, we can all agree that the United States is in big trouble financially.
The net result of the housing crisis is that a very large number of people have gone beyond totally broke - and oddly, this is a wonderful thing... for them.
Being broke and not having the line of credit to put yourself in deep debt ends up being a very good thing, our federal government has yet to quite catch on.
The problem with the federal government is that they can be re-elected for continued terms of failing to take care of our nation. The President has a two term limit, that was not part of the original deal. Senators get a six year run and Representatives get two year terms, virtually guaranteeing that they are in perpetual campaign mode.
Two years is a long time, six years is three times as bad.
Our theory on the solution to the federal problem stems from the reality of the perpetual campaigning problem.
The answer to the federal problem, according to Warren Buffett, was to lock out re-elections any time the federal deficit exceeds 3% of GDP... the problem is that such a law would require those very people to pass it. That is highly unlikely to happen.
The alternative is far more drastic, and far more effective.
I call it, One and Done, The New American Revolution.
Our Congress (made up of both the House and the Senate), goes to Washington, D.C. and bankrupts our nation.
Marches have traditionally had little effect, and the latest occupy "insert name of city here" campaigns get news coverage, but also get people hurt.
News coverage is good, but the real power for the American people has been what it will always be, the vote.
Of all the things that people can know about you, the vote, and your history with yours, or the very lack of it, is one of the greatest tools for a political version of the theory of Psychohistory. With this knowledge - and they do have it on all of us - the predictions of the future fallout for those who are financially killing all of us is powerful information.
Service to our federal government (of the people, by the people, for the people) should be the highest honor. There should be no retirement, no benefits beyond some payroll for doing a job for a short period of time. You choose to serve, you should serve, do well, then leave.
ETE The website that hosts this page focuses on the personal and professional development of our members for the betterment of society. Congress, both the House of Representatives and the Senate, have failed us. It is beyond time to do something about it.
This page will fill out a bit more as I discuss the ideals that can work for a One and Done movement... but the time is right now... the election cycle is coming around very soon.
Stay Tuned!
The Process, the Concept, the Solution:
I'd like help with fleshing this out, so feel free to use the anonymous tool or email me directly at oneanddone@rayhayden.us and help me work this out. Nothing is perfect, but we can hone out a nice simple process together - then put it into action!
What I call the basic rules of One and Done, The New American Revolution are as follows:1) If someone is currently in office, they are done at election time, anyone running against them is the candidate to vote for. Political party has nothing to do with this. All incumbents get voted out - they failed us already, they are all fired. Now, some of the folks running for office have held positions in politics before. How do we deal with them? The general rule of thumb that I come up with is that they cannot be running for the SAME position.
2) If someone is in an office in which you vote to retain them, vote against retaining them (like judges and such). You had your shot, you're done!
3) If some lucky incumbent is running unopposed, they score a free re-election by default, otherwise, they are fired.
In this way, someone could possibly have a long career in politics - just not in the same position. If you are a state representative, you can run for the state senate, national representative, national senate, governor, President or what have you, but you would not be re-elected into any of them - or the job you have now!
Simple is the key, simplicity is the answer. Let me know your thoughts on how to better establish a set of mindlessly simple rules so that everyone can participate in taking back our nation.
The bottom line is that our government has failed us entirely for generations.
For a very long time, the same players have been in place and they continue to fail us.
The founding fathers actually suggest that it is perfectly fine to overthrow the government (they did, didn't they?) when it is in the best interests of the population, but going to war with ourselves would be unwise, costly and wasteful.
We have a better way of doing it already in place, the VOTE!
Join the New American Revolution, One and Done! It is time to take back our nation!

Comments from Readers (this is new (March of 2012)):
13 March 2012:
"I believe our founding fathers never intended for elected officials to go to Washington and set up house. They were intended to go there make rules and come home and live by the rules they made. Any 'job' that allows you to vote for your own raises and allows you to receive full pension after one term would be one any fool would fight to stay in.
From this election on, I may still vote within my party but if you are the incumbent, you will not receive my vote! I think if we keep fresh faces and minds in Washington and they know they only have 2-6 yrs to make a difference maybe they will actually make changes!! They should have to come home and live by the exact rules they set in motion with no exceptions."
24 December 2011:
"The people who would run for office would probably be under a spoken mandate to make the necessary hard decision changes to bring better sense to the governing process.
We have to start putting America first and allow, compel, other nations to grow up and mature into being more independant and self reliant; looking out more for their own welfare. And, America needs to stop being the policeman to the rest of the world. World War II is the last war we won. We have lost every war/conflict since then at the cost of thousands of American lives."
